Cosmetic Eye Surgery in Louisville

Koby Karp Doctors Eye Institute specializes in Cosmetic Eye Surgery. Whether you are getting information for yourself or for a relative or a friend, we have provided a great deal of information here to answer some of your questions.

Customizing your eyes for beauty!

At Koby Karp Doctors Eye Institute we now offer various types of rejuvenating eyelid surgery to beautify your eyes. And we can perform these procedures right in our offices.

We all may expect some degree of eyelid "aging" as we get older. Main eyelid conditions that can affect both your vision and the way you look include:

  • Droopy eyelid skin and/or bulging fat pockets
  • Droopy eyelid - when not the skin but eyelid itself is droopy
  • Droopy eyebrows that cause descent of eyelid skin

Many of these conditions result in obstruction of the upper visual field due to droopy upper eyelids or sagging eyelids skin. Involved individuals may have difficulty reading or seeing objects in their peripheral vision due to upper eyelid/skin or brow droopiness.

If the visual field is affected by droopy upper eyelids/skin or descent of the eyebrows the cost of the surgery may be covered by medical insurance. Surgery cost of lower eyelids rejuvenation is not paid by insurance since this type of surgery is done for cosmetic purposes only.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is the name of surgery on the upper or lower eyelids when sagging, redundant eyelid skin and/or bulging fat pockets are removed.

Eyelid Ptosis Surgery

Eyelid Ptosis Surgery is the name of the procedure when the droopy eyelid itself is elevated.

Brow Lift

Brow Lift is done when the droopy brow is the cause of upper eyelid skin descent.

All three types of surgeries may be done in combination with each other if more than one of the above conditions is responsible for droopy looking eyelids. Length of eyelid surgery is usually between one and three hours depending on the extent of the procedure and whether only upper eyelids or upper and lower eyelids are operated at the same time.

The above surgeries are usually done under local anesthesia injected in the eyelid skin with additional sedation given intravenously. General anesthesia is also occasionally used as well. Eyelid surgeries are done on outpatient basis.

Swelling and some bruising are typical after eyelid surgery and improve considerably over one to two weeks following the surgery. Applying ice packs on operated area after the surgery helps to control swelling. As with any surgery, complications, although rare, are possible and include but are not limited to under-correction and over-correction with resultant eyelid asymmetry and dry eye symptoms, infection of the wound, excessive bleeding and even vision loss.

The level of the patient's expectations is a crucial factor in the success of the planned eyelid surgery. While the surgery may address many eyelid imperfections, it cannot cure all of them. Therefore, discuss desired eyelids correction with your doctor before the surgery.

Juvéderm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Your healthcare professional eases Juvéderm™ injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

Juvéderm™ provides a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice (but no one will know)! In fact, studies show superior results of Juvéderm™ compared to a collagen-based dermal filler. †

Immediate Results

With Juvéderm™ the injection process takes only about 15 minutes and results are immediate. Plus, there's minimal recovery or downtime. So you can step into your doctor's office for treatment and step right back into your life.

Important JUVÉDERM™ Treatment Considerations

Juvéderm™ Ultra and Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus are indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds). Side effects were usually mild to moderate lasting 7 days or less and included temporary injection site reactions like redness, pain, firmness, swelling and bumps.

BOTOX® now available

BOTOX | LouisvilleAt Koby Karp Doctors Eye Institute, many of our patients who have LASIK surgery or wear contact lenses want the BOTOX® procedure done as well. Since they got rid of their glasses, partially to improve appearance, they also want facial areas to be improved. So we are now offering the BOTOX® procedure as a convenience to our patients.

BOTOX® is a natural, purified protein which in very low doses relaxes the overactive muscles that cause frown lines to form. Treatment is simple and nonsurgical. It smoothes the deep, persistent lines between your brows that have developed over time.

For more than ten years BOTOX® has been safely used to treat a variety of conditions. It is now FDA-approved as BOTOX® Cosmetic for the temporary treatment of frown lines in people aged 18 to 65.
